It was exciting to have our first Level 2 training in 2019! We have 6 new Level 2 instructors and 5 new Level 1 instructors. We also had two students from Crater Lake Council and three from Blue Mountain Council. It was fabulous to work with such a great team of instructors and students to enable broader and safer climbing programs throughout the northwest.
This course was also reviewed for re-certification of our program by Climbing Program Trainers from Chief Seattle (Matt Robbins) and Mountain West (Gwen Cook) Councils. As a result, CPC’s Climbing training program is re-certified for the next 5 years.
This year, we used Camp Baldwin as a home base for both Ground School and Practical weekend. This worked out well, even though there was snow on the ground both weekends, and we had snow flurries throughout the Ground School weekend. Having the bridge in The Dalles closed added over 30 mins to our commute to/from HorseThief, but it worked out in the end. As always in Scouting, Semper Gumby!
